Collection: Reinventing Rock
Scotland’s nature is unique and interesting with a varied colour palette influenced by the seasons and open to interpretation. Those living in Scotland appreciate the diversity of their country and all aspects of the environment. I have created my own interpretation of Scottish geology that brings together pattern, colour and textures that allows the ancient to sit comfortably alongside the modern. Muted colours enhanced with needlework introduce texture and individuality to create bespoke designs. My designs can be applied in a home or commercial setting, introduced as single pieces as a focal point or a theme in large projects.
This project aims to capture Scotland’s geology in print. The information available through geology allows us to understand our surroundings and beginnings. My creations through print allow another dimension to be shown, using textures, colours and patterns.
Exploring Scottish geology through this project brings nature indoors and maintains our connection with Scotland and the environment. I have used different materials to illustrate the versatility of my designs including interior items and wallpaper. This project captures the detail and complexity of geology by incorporating colour and texture whilst maintaining the relevance of design that can be applied in a modern setting.
My ambition is to become an independent designer for the interior market. This project has reinforced my opinion that by capturing nature and applying modern techniques, a strong brand can be developed. My research into geology inspired me to look closely at all aspects of Scotland both natural and industrial to develop designs that will appeal to a wide customer base. The recent election has shown that Scotland is changing and those that live in Scotland appreciate what Scotland has to offer. Establishing a Scottish based business, interacting with customers, to produce products inspired by Scotland is my aim.
